The vampire boy nodded towards her words and didn't really speak at all. All of this just seemed, alien; awkward, really. As Edward thought about it, he didn't know if the two of them really ever had a real conversation about other things besides how much they loved one another, how much he wanted to protect her and such things as that. He sighed quietly and continued to stare ahead of him and glanced a bit around them, seeing a few familiar faces here and there, but didn't bother to give them a smile. Edward could hear what some of them were thinking; he thought he heard someone wonder why he was even speaking to her, but he pushed the thoughts away and like old times, tried to listen to Bella's mind and thus, nothing but silence came to his mind.
Edward smirked, he couldn't help it, it was the one thing the didn't seem to change and it caused him to laugh a bit "There is one thing that still hasn't changed in the past six years.." he started to speak and looked down towards the girl, with the slight crooked grin on his face "I still can't hear your thoughts."

Bella smiled slightly. She was bizarrely happy that he could hear her thoughts. Partially just because she wasn't sure she wanted him to know all of the things she'd done while she was gone, and partially because that was kind of the only thing she'd ever had that he couldn't touch. That thought made very little sense to her, but it was true. Edward had been able to see and hurt touch every other part of her, but her mind had always been hers and hers alone. And as for the knowing about what she'd done while she was away part, well... it was just probably good that he couldn't know about all of the stupid reckless crazy things she'd done.
"Well, I can't say that I'm surprised about that..." Bella grinned slightly, kind of happy to see a farmiliar expression on his face. The smile that had once been her favorite. She had to say that it was still dazzling, but... it didn't quite have the same hold over her anymore.
Bella absently ran a hand through her hair, and felt the slightly raised scar on the back of her neck. That had been rather dramatic, and amusingly stupid(and improbable for anyone but Bella).. She'd been doing something stupid(standing on a swively stool trying to change a lightbulb), and had somehow managed to knock a plate of of a shelf and onto her head. It had broken and get her neck. She'd also managed to break her wrist during that incident. Jamie had been very amused. The scar always managed to make her smile. She'd learned to take her accidents with a healthy amount of amusement, over time.

A part of him still hated that he couldn't read Bella's thoughts, but another part of him was glad that he couldn't. One thing was for sure, he was scared to know of what kind of harm the human girl would of possibly gone through. Edward knew first hand how clumsy and of a danger magnet Bella is when it came to anything that was around her. The vampire boy mentally cringed at the thought of some of the things that could of happened to her in the past six years, but nevertheless, Edward pushed the thought away and figured there was no use anymore in worrying about her life, no more use in worrying whether or not she is harmed or....he couldn't even think the word and he wasn't going to as he pushed it completely from his mind and after hearing her reply, gave her a small shrug of his shoulders with a soft smile to his lips and stared ahead of himself once more.
Edward started to think to himself, why was he opening a wound and pouring salt on it? Or was he trying to really prove to Bella and mainly to himself that he was..is over her and that he was..is okay? Or maybe it was something else..was he trying to show Bella that he truly is okay with everything that happened, that he wasn't mad at her or upset with her, in hopes that maybe she'd for some reason or another take him back no..she won't. she doesn't want to be with me anymore. it's the reason she left in the first place.. he thought to himself and it caused him to cringe mentally once more.
A small sigh came from his lips, he couldn't take walking next to the girl that was once his world, the love of his life and not being able to hold her, to touch her to not feel the way he was feeling to know that she was completely over him, that she was, in fact doing good. For some reason, Edward hated Bella Swan for a brief second, even envied her because she got over all of this so quickly. He bit lightly at the inside of his bottom lip and needed to get away from her, he needed to find Alice and speak with her or do something. Edward stopped in his tracks and looked towards Bella "I..I need to get back home." he gave her a small smile "I promised Esme I'd help her finish with unpacking a few things." he lied and hoped it didn't show "It was good to see you again. Bye, Bella." he told her polietly and turned on heel and made his way back to his car.
